Musical Heroes UNITE!

What a great year this is for music, I haven't even got round to writing about Vampire Weekend or the mighty MGMT yet (and I've probably missed the boat to bother...) and now I've been presented with the Union of 2 of my musical Heroes, the twisted funk-blues genius that is Beck and the psychadelic 60s-with-a-hip-hop-beat productions of Brian "Dangermouse" Burton.

And the collaboration really lives up to what you'd imagine to hear...the 2 contributing what they do best to make a whole that is even greater than the sum of the parts. Stand out tracks are tricky on an album of this quality but it has to be said that "Chemtrails" is on of the most dreamy, wonderfully weird yet increadibly tracks I've ever heard.

I've already written about the fantastic results achieved by putting Madlib with Erykah Badu

If collaborations of independently brilliant artists can produce work this fine then bring them on. Pharrell's much talked of collaboration with the Strokes is a hugely exciting prospect, althought he first fruits of that (the track made for the Converse ad) is a bit of a throw-away...but with proper time & attention, that could be a match equal of Beck/Burton.

So here's to the union of musical heroes...let's get experimental!
